How Light Penetrates Skin

Different wavelengths of light penetrate to different depths within skin tissue. This is the foundation of multi-wavelength LED therapy.

  • 460nm Blue Light — Penetrates the epidermis (0–2mm). Targets sebaceous glands and acne-causing bacteria (P. acnes) at the surface layer.
  • 590nm Yellow Light — Penetrates to the upper dermis (~2–3mm). Reduces inflammation, calms redness, and improves lymphatic flow.
  • 630nm / 650nm Red Light — Penetrates the dermis (3–5mm). Stimulates fibroblast activity, collagen synthesis, and elastin production.
  • 850nm Near-Infrared — Reaches deep dermis and subcutaneous tissue (5–10mm). Accelerates tissue repair, increases ATP production, and reduces inflammation at depth.
  • 1064nm Deep Near-Infrared — Penetrates to subcutaneous fat and deeper connective tissue (10–15mm+). Supports foundational skin structure, deep collagen remodelling, and cellular regeneration at a depth no other consumer LED device reaches.

The 1064nm Advantage

The 1064nm wavelength is the deepest-penetrating light wavelength available in any consumer LED therapy device. At penetration depths of 10–15mm, it reaches the deepest layers of the dermis and subcutaneous tissue — the structural foundation of skin. This depth enables true foundational remodelling, not just surface-level results.

The ChipNova F2 is one of the only at-home devices to include 1064nm alongside four other clinically targeted wavelengths in a single treatment session.

  • Week 4 — Initial visible improvements in skin tone, reduction in surface redness, and early signs of acne reduction. Cellular activity and collagen stimulation begin at depth.
